According to the New Jersey Judiciary, about six million of the seven million cases filed in New Jersey courts each year are filed in Municipal Courts. New Jersey Municipal Courts hear cases ranging from those involving motor-vehicle offenses such as illegal parking and speeding, to those involving minor criminal offenses such as simple assault, trespassing and shoplifting (known as disorderly persons offenses). Cases involving hunting, fishing and boating laws and even minor disputes between neighbors are also heard in Municipal Courts. With so many cases being remanded from Superior Court to Municipal Courts, upon notification from your office we are able to follow up and request the Municipal Court information. CHR offers in-court research in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Washington, DC, and now Massachusetts. Robin Watkins is General Manager of County House Research, Inc. |

Have you purchased a toothbrush recently? The vast array of choices eclipses the old standards of head size and bristle firmness. Todays toothbrushes have multiple facets, angled designs, and battery-powered oscillation. Toothbrushes are also more expensive, with disposable electric varieties costing as much $5.00, $7.00, or even $10.00 depending on where you live and shop. How do toothbrush manufacturers command such a premium on what should be a commodity? Two factors are essential: 1) Brand recognition. An Oral-B buyer is unlikely to buy a Colgate brush and vice versa; 2) Innovation. Because of their singular nature, innovative products can escape the brutal downward price pressure of the market. We all want clean teeth, fresh breath, and no cavities. We are willing to pay more for a brush that might just give us the edge in the battle for good oral hygiene or make the monotony of teeth cleaning more fun, especially if there is nothing similar out there. Like good brushing habits, pre-employment screening is an effective protective measure. The background pre-screening industry can benefit from innovation, as well. By using fresh approaches, background pre-screeners can build brand recognition and command premium prices. Jay Eidelman is a marketing and communications consultant |
