This was made by a friend at bitstrips.com, a fun site that shows some of the sillier uses of innovation.

I look forward to seeing everyone again at the Pre-Screeners Conference in Clearwater, FL.

Robin's Ruminations

The New Jersey court system is among the least complex in the United States. There are only a few basic types of courts in the state: municipal courts, Tax Court, state Superior Court, which includes the trial courts, an Appellate Division and the New Jersey Supreme Court. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of New Jersey is Stuart Rabner. County House Research covers all New Jersey courts with the exception of Tax Court.

It was wonderful reconnecting with so many friends and colleagues at the recent NAPBS mid-year. I look forward to spending more time with friends in Clearwater!

Food for Thought
Jay Eidelman

In a recent New York Times piece, Michael Pollan, Knight Professor of Journalism at Cal, Berkeley and author of The Omnivore's Dilemma, among other works, argues that "the era of cheap and abundant food appears to be drawing to a close." He reckons that the high cost of petroleum-based fertilizers and pesticides will ultimately force major changes in agriculture and calls on the next president to address the coming challenges. Pollan contends that high fuel costs will necessitate more local farming and less reliance on petroleum. This in turn will mean that farming will likely become more labor intensive than at present.

If Pollan is correct, we may soon witness the renaissance of agricultural labor, with many Americans finding work in farming and allied industries. This, it seems, also represents an opportunity for CRAs and the employment screening industry.

Giving Corner

The Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of JDRF works to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Type 1 diabetes is a disease which strikes children and adults suddenly and requires multiple injections of insulin daily or a continuous infusion of insulin through a pump. Insulin, however, is not a cure for diabetes, nor does it prevent its eventual and devastating complications which may include kidney failure, blindness, heart disease, stroke, and amputation. Please join us in supporting their efforts.
